ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

GeoCivics | University of Colorado

In July 2021, I interned with the GeoCivics Project at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, with the goal of increasing civic engagement in the redistricting process. My main focus was to make geospatial technologies (GIS) accessible to the public, extending beyond academia.

To achieve this, I conducted Zoom trainings on DistrictR and Representable.org, empowering individuals to actively participate in redistricting. I also collaborated with high school students in the greater Colorado Springs area, guiding them through redistricting exercises using a large map (refer to image on the left) to help them grasp the importance of GIS.

A significant part of my internship involved compiling redistricting education materials for elementary and secondary school teachers. I improved the user interface of the GeoCivics website to ensure easy access to these resources for teachers.

At the end of the summer, I co-authored an article titled "GeoCivics: Asking Geographic Questions to Address Political Issues," which was published in the journal of the National Social Studies Supervisors Association. This article equips social studies teachers with practical tools for integrating the redistricting process into their classrooms.

Vermont Redistricting Event | American Association of Geographers

In September 2021, I worked with the American Association of Geographers to organize and host a redistricting panel event at Middlebury College. This event brought together redistricting experts from across the state to raise public awareness about Vermont’s process. You can read an article I wrote publicizing the event here and watch the event recording here.
